Dance Medal Display Ideas for Recitals, Feis and Competitions

Dance medals arrive differently from running medals. A runner earns one medal per race. A competition dancer can come home from a single feis with five, and a studio dancer collects recital medals every season for a decade.

That volume changes what a good display looks like. Here is how to build one that keeps up.

Start with the medal count, not the room

Count what the dancer has now, then add two years at the current pace. Under 15 medals, one display handles everything. Past 25, you need a plan: either a curated display for the meaningful ones, or a display dedicated to each discipline.

Ideas by dancer

For young dancers: make it theirs

A display with the dancer's own name on it does something a shelf of trophies does not — it says the collection belongs to them. For children, hang it at their eye level, not adult eye level. A display they can see from bed gets looked at every day.

For Irish dancers: plan for volume

Feis medals accumulate faster than almost any other discipline. Two workable approaches: hang only podium finishes and store participation medals, or rotate — this season's medals on display, previous seasons in a keepsake box. Rotation keeps the display fresh and the wall from overloading.

For ballet dancers: recital programs alongside

Ballet produces fewer medals but more paper — programs, cast lists, certificates. A display with a clip or holder for the current program next to the medal rail turns it into a season-by-season record. Photograph each season's arrangement before you rotate it out.

For competition teams: one display per season

Team dancers often want the season kept together — the nationals medal next to the regionals medal that qualified them. A dated engraving line (Season 2027) makes each display a chapter.

Getting the details right

Height and reach. If the dancer is under ten, mount low enough that they can add a new medal themselves. Adding it is half the ritual.
